ABC Program Features Attacks on Pre-K

"Good Morning America presented viewers with an inaccurate and unbalanced picture of the critical issue of quality pre-kindergarten. Any serious debate over pre-k should include the four decades of research showing how children, parents, taxpayers, and the economy benefit from high-quality early learning programs."

Friday, ABC's Good Morning America ran an inaccurate and unbalanced story on pre-kindergarten, attacking public investment in pre-k as a "scam" and a "waste of money."

Upset? So are we. The producers at Good Morning America need to hear from us - quality pre-k programs are proven and effective, helping our children and strengthening our country.

Click here now to sign our petition to GMA demanding balanced journalism and airtime for the pre-k facts.

The three-minute story did not have a single word about the four decades of research proving that quality pre-k benefits all children or that it returns $2 or more for every dollar we invest.

Instead, the story presented discredited arguments and backed them with nothing but the claims of well-known pre-k opponents.

It is no coincidence that the story ran just days after President Obama spoke of the need for quality early learning programs in a major education speech. Opponents of pre-k want to derail the momentum we've achieved and the support we've built, from local communities up to the White House.

Stand up to these attacks on pre-k - click here to add your name to this message:

After you've signed, please ask friends, family and other pre-k supporters to take action with you.

Together, we can make sure that Americans hear the facts about the benefits of voluntary, quality pre-k.

Thanks for everything you do!

LEGISLATIVE e-BRIEF 03/17/2009:

Early Childhood Development Hearings this week

Tuesday and Thursday, March 17 and 19, the House Committee on Education and Labor will hold two hearings on early childhood development. Voices for America’s Children thanks the committee and the President for their leadership on this issue and strongly believes that the dialogue occurring on early education and children’s developmental health must be inexorably linked.

Research demonstrates that infants and toddlers not able to access health care services that support their developmental needs, arrive to school not ready to learn and have more negative outcomes than children with access to quality health care. Voices applauds the leadership of the committee, but recommends that both Congress and the President do more to ensure that all children have access to both early education and health care services that support their developmental needs. These issues need to be seen together and Congress and the President must take on a greater leadership role to address both the education and health care needs of all children.

Further information about the hearings may be obtained by clicking here.
